Highland Dance Rules

RULES

•Competition is governed by the rules and regulations of the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD) and Scotdance USA (SDUSA).

•The decision of the Adjudicator is final. Protests must be made in writing and submitted to the Competition Organizer within 7 days of the event accompanied by a $25 fee that will be refunded if the petition is warranted

•The competitor’s age will be as of Saturday, April 2nd, 2022. Age groups will be determined after the closing date of entries. The Competition Committee reserves the right to change any event or time schedule as needed

•Last to enter, first to compete and “fill in” for Reels.

•Three-Month Rule – Judges may not adjudicate any competitor that they have instructed for a period of three months. If a competitor has entered a competition with a judge they have attended a class or workshop within the last three months, the dancer must step down from the competition.

•Entries must be postmarked by Thursday, March 24th, 2022 to avoid a late entry fee. Late entries will be accepted until March 31st, 2022 with an additional late entry fee of $25.00.

•All dancers must present their 2022 Registration card at the time of registration in a zip lock bag. Dancers without card WILL NOT be allowed to compete.

•Physical distancing and masks will be encouraged during registration, marshalling, and in secured spectator area.

•Dancers are not required, but may wear a mask while competing or remove the mask before dancing on stage in which case a bag should be used to place the mask at the entrance of stage.

•Physical distancing of 3-4 feet apart inside dressing areas will be required by organizer. Changing areas to be used for costume changes only.

•In accordance with ScotDance USA policies, dancers must not change costumes in public view. Dancers must arrive fully dressed and ready to dance.

•Dancers will be recognized on stage for awards, and then pick up at awards table.

•The above rules and procedures to be updated as needed with SDUSA and State updates.

The 2022 Combined Assumption of Risk and Day of Competition Waiver must be completed for all adult attendees upon arrival. All accompanied children will be listed on the adult form. This form will be required for all competitors and attendees. Please print out and read this form before arriving.

Texas does not have any State and local guidelines for physical distancing and masking at this time. This is an outdoor event. Socially distanced spaces will be available for dancers and spectators in the secured spectator area.

A person must not attend any SDUSA event if they are experiencing any new or worsening symptom of illness that are not attributable to any underlying medical condition such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, runny nose, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell.

ORDER OF EVENTS

  1. Registration begins at 9:00 AM.
  2. Dancing starts PROMPTLY at 9:30 AM.
  3. PRIMARY, INTERMEDIATE and PREMIER registration will begin at 12:00pm with competition immediately following lunch break.
