Northfolk is an instrumental ensemble that plays traditional Northern folk styles from Europe and North America. Co-creators Mira Dickey and Sarah Lynn have a vast pool of knowledge in Norwegian, Irish, Swedish, Scottish, Shetland, and Canadian fiddle music, and have combined their passions to perform shows with a diverse range of styles. Dickey (fiddle and hardanger fiddle) specializes in Norwegian music, and spent a year studying the hardanger fiddle in Norway at the University of South Eastern Norway at Rauland. Lynn (fiddle and banjo) specializes in Scottish music and studies with 10-time National Scottish Fiddle Champion, Dr. John Turner. Lynn is the current reigning US National Scottish Fiddle Champion. Lynn and Dickey’s passions originally overlapped in Shetland and Irish music, and have fused their skills to create Northfolk.
